Lounging away to glory

Pubs and nightclubs remain the same but fast proliferating lounge bars have caught the country's collective imagination. It has become more of lifestyle statement. Lopamudra Ganguly finds out how the present lounge ethos is carving its niche around the city.

With today's trend you see lounge lizards creeping into their habitat from noon till post midnight. The call centre insomniacs are lounging in the daytime; the corporate czars are chilling into wee hours.

So lounge has emerged on the cultural map as a popular site for socializing and evening outings, particularly among urban trendsetters in their 20's and 30's a whole lounge culture has arisen-complete with lounge fashion, lounge music and entire lounge aesthetics.

The cool idea is to rebel against loud music loud talk and loud dressing of nightclubs. So today the lights are brighter, music is softer; the mood is spirited and talks intimate.

With a proper space to relax, the new lounges are more of mood and there is an absence of dance floor, says Mr. Singh owner of Delhi's fashion TV Lounge.
